Pertemps Medical are currently recruiting for a Consultant Psychiatrist in Learning Disability for one of our clients based in Buckinghamshire.


  • Full-time/part time
  • Salary - inline with NHS Bandings


The service provided is clinic based with Home/out of office visits based on need. Visits include that of people living at home or in a range of voluntary, independent, health and social services establishments. Therefore it necessarily involves working with relatives and carers and liaising with social service providers, E.G.D centre offices and care managers, and also private/independent health and social care providers, local voluntary/charitable agencies, as well as other stakeholders.

The consultant will provide clinical medical leadership within the North The consultant will provide clinical medical leadership within the north CTPLD, And I will take referrals from a variety of sources, including GPs, other psychiatrists in the trust and professions allied to healthcare and social care. The consultant may also be required to give more general advice about learning disability issues within the consultative role. The consultant will support initiatives in health promotion and support shared care with their GMP colleagues where appropriate.

There is a policy on joint working with adult mental health services which includes the decision of whether a person with a learning disability should be admitted to an adult mental health bed or to a specialist learning disability assessment and treatment unit in line with valuing people.

The consultant is required to contribute to medical and clinical audit, and to undertake continuing professional development. Consultants are required to register with the Royal College of psychiatrist CPD scheme. The consultant is expected to adhere to the trust policies and clinical governance agenda. The consultant will be a member of the psychiatrist of learning disability is directly peer group. The consultant will be a member of the medical forum of all consultants in the north of the country as well as a member of the trust medical staff committee The consultant is required to contribute to medical and clinical audit, and to undertake continuing professional development. Summary and responsibilities and duties:


  • The post holder will provide diagnostic assessment, treatment and support services to adults with a range of learning disability associated with mental disorder, challenging behaviour, pervasive developmental disorders, dementia associated with Down’s syndrome and other multiple disabilities, including offending behaviour or intractable epilepsy according to special interest.
  • The post holder or contribute to risk assessment and management and in the use of the care program approach for patients in his/her care. The post-holder will work closely with I ST and will provide psychiatric input to I SK for those patients.

  • The post holder will take a lead role providing consultant expertise for the current local integration of mental health and social care provisions of LD services.
